Most hypnotists spend years developing intuition.
I was fortunate to learn from some of the world’s leading hypnotists. They all produced remarkable results, yet many explained hypnosis in very different ways. Their observations were remarkably consistent. Their explanations were not.
Then…
Like many practitioners, I spent years trying to reconcile those differences. Every new teacher seemed to add another technique, another explanation, or another exception. The more I learned, the more it became clear that the profession had accumulated an extraordinary amount of practical knowledge without a single coherent framework to organize it.
Eventually I stopped looking for better techniques and started looking for better explanations.
When I discovered predictive processing, everything changed. It didn’t replace hypnosis. It organized it. The scattered observations, techniques, and experiences I’d accumulated over years of practice finally fit together into a coherent system that explained not only why hypnosis works, but why it sometimes doesn’t—and how to systematically solve those problems.
I could influence outcomes with precision.
From that point forward, I was no longer searching for the next technique. Every new idea became easier to understand because I finally understood the principles that connected them.
Hypnosis had become transparent.
What This Means for You
Using hypnosis reliably across different people, purposes, and settings depends on one thing:
understanding the process well enough to know what is happening and what needs to happen next.
That means being clear about the response you are trying to create, establishing alignment, directing attention, shaping expectation, observing what changes, and correcting course when the process does not unfold as expected.
